SMILE or LASIK? See Which Laser Vision Correction is Best for You Now!
It is a sure thing that every person sporting full-rim glasses has once considered or is considering laser vision correction. Imagine getting up and being able to see the whole world... it's wonderful! However, many people wonder which laser vision correction is best for them. What is the difference between SMILE and LASIK?
Small Incision Lenticule Extraction (“SMILE”) is performed by cutting through the middle portion of the cornea with the femtosecond laser. The thin tissue within the cornea could be separated and extracted through the tiny incision (2-4 mm) to alter the corneal curvature to achieve the effect of vision correction (i.e. reducing the conditions in myopia and astigmatism).
LASIK requires a thin slice of the cornea (corneal flap) using the femtosecond laser. The excimer laser is then used to grind the inner layer of the cornea beneath the flap to improve the curvature of the cornea and correct the vision.
