Hernia in Children

Have you noticed any unexpected abdominal bulging in children? It could be a hernia! Hernia happens in men and women and is a very common childhood condition. As the disease does not heal on its own and cannot be treated with medication, you have to seek medical help promptly, otherwise, the small intestine may become compressed and become seriously damaged.

A hernia is a condition in which an organ moves from its normal position to an abnormal position, most commonly the large intestine or small intestine in the abdomen. It forms a small lump protruding from a gaping hole in the abdominal wall.

There is a channel or gap in the developing child's groin (the "thigh gap") that is not fully developed, allowing the organs in the belly to protrude through the channel, forming a lump or swollen mass in the groin. These organs can include the large intestine, small intestine, ovaries, uterus and bladder, so both boys and girls are at risk of hernia. Some doctors point out that 2-7% of children have this problem.

Can hernia be treated by massage?

Absolutely not! Hernia condition refers to the protrusion of the organ, and massage can never help! Some people think progress is being made when they see the lump repositioned and flattened when they are massaged or lying down, but in fact the hernia does not disappear. If left untreated, it can lead to colic or strangulation of the small intestine, bowel puncture, peritonitis and, eventually, death.

Hernia Treatment

Hernia requires surgery intervention. Nowadays, in addition to traditional surgery, minimally invasive procedures are also available for hernia treatment. The surgeon will make a 1 cm diameter incision and two 0.5 cm diameter incisions in the procedure and will apply the minimally invasive surgical instruments through small holes. It is the most popular procedure for hernias as the wound is small, does not affect the appearance and reduces the risk of bacterial infection.
