Eat for Porcelain Skin! Three Types of Food to Get Rid of Acne

Acne never goes away. Many people have suffered from acne. We all know that apart from going to bed early and refraining from fried and spicy food, we can improve our acne-prone skin through diet. Mandy Wong, a nutritionist, shared three anti-acne foods on Instagram that can restore your porcelain skin.

Food with Low Glycaemic Index (GI)

High-GI food such as desserts, candies, white rice, white bread, etc., can increase the body's blood sugar level. The surge will affect the Insulin-like Growth Factor (IGF), which will increase sebum secretion and lead to acne. Therefore during an acne breakout, you should opt for low-GI food such as brown rice, oat bran, sweet potatoes, rice vermicelli, legumes, etc.  


Food Rich in Omega-3

Acne is caused by inflammation of the pores due to bacteria. Omega-3 is one of the anti-inflammatory nutrients that helps reduce the level of inflammation and the chance of acne scarring. Food rich in omega-3 includes deep-sea fish such as salmon, mackerel, walnuts, soybeans, flaxseed oil, etc. 


Food Rich in Beta Carotene

Beta carotene can be converted into vitamin A in the body, which achieves oil-balancing effects on the skin. In addition, beta-carotene facilitates the normal metabolism of the stratum corneum, keeping pores free from clogging and thus reducing the formation of comedones. Medical experts recommend eating at least one of the following beta-carotene-rich food daily, including carrots, pumpkins, papayas, spinach, kale, sweet potatoes, etc.
