Some people turn to our phones for distraction, even in the bathroom. However, this habit could be causing you more harm than good. The squatting position that people take can cause blood to flow downwards, which can lead to insufficient blood supply to the brain and resulting in dizziness.


Most people do not sit upright when going to the toilet, so their bodies will unconsciously lean forward during the process, and when they look down to play on the phone or read a book, the cervical spine will be under greater pressure, resulting in a change in the forward flexion of the cervical spine. In the long run, it can aggravate "turtle neck" and cervical disc herniation. When there is a problem with the cervical spine, the blood flow may not be smooth and dizziness and blurred vision may occur.


Apart from cervical spine injury, spending too much time on the toilet can also lead to haemorrhoids and constipation. The prolonged sitting can cause blood vessels to swell, resulting in bleeding, anal protrusion, stinging, and itching. Chronic pressure can lead to the formation of haemorrhoids, which can be very painful. Additionally, prolonged sitting can interfere with bowel nerves, leading to constipation.

Instead, opt for high-fibre foods, drink plenty of water, and consider taking probiotics to help keep your bowels moving smoothly. Don't strain when using the toilet, especially if you suffer from constipation or haemorrhoids. And, if you experience persistent pain in your cervical spine, seek medical attention promptly.
